Assessing Oral Proficiency, Part I: SOPI Beginner Workshop
(maximum 30 participants)
students?
High school teachers, are you interested in a district-wide assessment that meets
the PEP criteria for a standards-based assessment?
This one-day orientation workshop will present
a SOPI-type assessment that
was developed by the Pittsburgh Public Schools with funding from the US
Department of Education. Participants will receive a thorough understanding of
the lower levels (to Intermediate Low) of the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Scale and
an explanation of the SOPI-type test structure. Participants will then be grouped
by language to listen to and practice rating student speech samples in French,
German, and Spanish. Participants will leave with a packet of materials to
implement
a sample test in their schools.
Presenters:
Dr. Bonnie Adair-Hauck, University of Pittsburgh
Dr. Eileen Glisan, Indiana University
of Pennsylvania
Dr. Thekla Fall, Consultant and Former World Language Coordinator, Pittsburgh
Public Schools
