While NECTFL is nominally a regional association, its activities, publications, and annual conference attract participants from around the country and the globe. Currently, about 40 states and 10 foreign countries send a total of 2,500 educators to the Northeast Conference each year. The 2010 conference will be held in New York City from April 25 -27, at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.
PSMLA collaborates with NECTFL in a variety of ways. Based on session evaluations, we choose a presenter from our fall conference to present their session—The Best of Pennsylvania—at the Northeast Conference each spring. Once we have chosen our Teacher of the Year for Pennsylvania, we nomiate that teacher for NECTFL’s consideration as their Teacher of the Year. PSMLA annually nominates a candidate for the Mead Fellowship Program. Moreover, three representatives from PSMLA represent Pennsylvania at the Meeting of the States at the Northeast Conference.
PSMLA's representative for ACTFL is Maryanne Boettjer.

The Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages is a not-for-profit proactive regional organization whose goal is to
serve the diverse community of language professionals through responsive leadership in its outreach activities and its annual conference.
For 40 years, the Pennsylvania Council for International Education (PaCIE) has worked to strengthen international education in the
Commonwealth. Established in 1969 by a group of Pennsylvania colleges and universities in order to advocate for international education
and to support collaborative projects, PaCIE has expanded through the years. It provides important professional development and networking
opportunities to college and university faculty, K-12 teachers, administrators, and students. PaCIE also actively promotes linkages
between K-12 and tertiary institutions. Membership is available on an institutional or individual level.
PSMLA has collaborated with PaCIE over the years to further their common goals. Most recently, the Board of PaCIE has joined the Advocacy campaign for the approval of the Pennsylvania Standards for World Languages, and has lobbied the State Board of Education, leading legislators, and other influential people. Many of these initiatives are listed in the PaCIE Newsletter. In its annual conference, PaCIE invites papers that address world languages and their role in a global society. This year, the Conference will be held in Harrisburg PA, on October 2 and 3, 2009.
