CEMANAHUAC / PSMLA SCHOLARSHIP 2007

 

Description

PSMLA is pleased to be able to offer, for the first time, a scholarship for two weeks of intensive study at the Cemanahuac Educational Community in Cuernavaca, Mexico in the summer of 2007. This is a wonderful opportunity for a Pennsylvania teacher to be able to study in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The scholarship, worth approximately $930, includes registration, tuition for two weeks, housing (double occupancy), with all meals, and one field trip, in addition to the regular Spanish language study program. The following are expenses not covered in the scholarship: air transportation to Mexico City, transfer toCuernavaca, textbooks, and personal expenses.

The winner of the Cemanahuac Scholarship will be selected by the PSMLA Awards Committee and approved by the PSMLA Executive Council.

Eligibility

Applicant must:

  • Be a member in good standing of PSMLA for at least 2 years prior to applying.
  • Be a full-time teacher in a public or private school at the k-12 level during the 2006-2007 school year.
  • Carry a teaching load of at least 50% Spanish classes.
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from his/her school administrator and/or department chairperson on why they deserve this scholarship.
  • Be willing to share his/her experiences by presenting a session at a PSMLA Conference within 2 years of participation and by submitting an article for the next PSMLA Forum.

The selection committee will consider:

  • Need for this immersion experience in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
  • How the applicant views the experience will enhance his/her teaching.
  • Willingness to share the experience by providing a workshop or a session at the annual PSMLA conference.
  • Commitment and involvement in the teaching of Spanish.
